Clinical examination of the upper limb is used to guide the hand rehabilitation programme. Relevant background such as hand dominance, occupation, avocation, signs and symptoms, patient goals, questions related to history of present condition etc. History allows your hand therapist to understand your problem and how it affects you.
Physical examination of the hand or upper limb will be conducted. This includes observation, inspection, palpation, measuring range of motion (ROM) of the affected joints, testing muscle (extrinsic and intrinsic) tightness, testing muscle strength etc
