Custom made splints are made at the time of appointment and ready to be used immediately after fabrication. Splinting can be used of immobilisation or mobilisation to help gain maximum function after a trauma, injury, or surgery. We can assess the needs for custom splinting/orthoses.
Splints can be used to advance recovery in the acute phase, as well as provide protection when individuals return to life, work, sports and hobbies.
Immobilisation splints can be used to immoilise and rest healing tissues. Resting healing tissue can reduce inflammation and encourage orderly healing without unfavourable external forces. It should be used with caution to encourage optimal result while preventing stiffness of the joints and atrophy of the muscles with prolonged usage.
Mobilising splints can be used to mobilise tissue using forces applied by splints to facilitate healing tissues. It has moving components which apply force(s) on joints which in turn affects soft tissue to aid in healing.
Splints are made with low-temperature thermoplastic material. These are moulded to the contours of your hand/limb.
There are also off-the-shelf supports to choose from to facilitate your healing.
